Nothing to prove, a lot to improve

5 min read

nothing to prove - flower that is blossoming

Dear bunnies,

I was not sure what to write today. After cleaning the terrace at the back, I ended up on my laptop for hours, listening to some podcasts. And a thought got stuck in me. Everyone is chasing something. Everyone is trying to prove themselves. I found that exhausting, honestly. That is what today’s letter is about. Nothing to prove, a lot to improve.

I keep seeing it everywhere. What people can offer. What they can do. What they bring to the table. Like you only get to matter once you have shown enough.

I have been thinking about this a lot. Wondering when we all started living this way.

Accepting yourself and wanting to grow are not opposite things. But the world acts like they are. Like you have to pick one. Either you accept yourself, or you improve yourself. I do not think that is true. I think you can like who you are right now and still want more for your life. Both at once. Quietly. Without anything being wrong with you.

Somewhere along the way, growing stopped being something you do for yourself. It became something you do to be seen. Like a highlight reel of becoming a better person. Proof that you are still worth someone’s attention.

I have never really lived that way. I would not say I am closed off. I do listen. It is just that most of the time, I already know what I want, and what I believe in does not shift easily. But I still feel the pull. Everyone does. That constant noise telling you to chase more, prove more, become more, just to be taken seriously.

This letter is not a confession. It is a reminder. A reminder to keep standing where I already stand.

I have nothing to prove.

Not to my family. Not to old friends who only knew who I used to be. Not to strangers online living a life that has nothing to do with mine. I have never needed to shape my choices around what would make someone finally think I am enough, and I do not plan to start now, no matter how loud the world gets about it.

Trying to prove yourself never ends. You hit one goal and there is already another one waiting. Your worth becomes something you keep chasing but never actually catch. I want no part of that. I would rather stay where I am, steady, than keep reaching for approval that runs the second you get close.

But steady does not mean small. I still want big things. When I ask God for something, I ask big. I am not afraid to want more for my life. I just do not let those big things shape me, and I do not let myself end up serving them. Wanting more is not the problem. Building my whole life around getting it is.

A friend of mine once told me to fly higher. Soar higher. I love that. Honestly, who would not love hearing that. But I do not think it is really about me. It is about flying higher and soaring higher for His glory, not mine. And there is something so light about that. Depending on someone who already sees the future means I do not have to carry the weight of figuring it all out on my own.

I already know my worth. That is not something I have to figure out.

What matters to me is how my Lord sees me. Not how many people notice me. Not how much I get done. Just that. Nothing can change who I am in Him. Not my mistakes. Not my past. Not who I used to be before I knew better. He never measured me by any of that, so I do not either.

I still want to grow, though. I still want to read more, pray more, be more patient on the hard days. That has not changed. The reason has always been mine. I am not improving to earn my place. I already have one. I am improving because I want to. Because it feels good to slowly become someone I respect.

And I think that is just how it is supposed to be. As long as we are living here on earth, we keep growing. Learning does not stop. It just keeps going, quietly, in the background of every ordinary day, whether we notice it or not.

I think this is where God met me too, in a quiet way. Not with a list of rules I had to follow perfectly to be loved. More like a hand that stayed, even on the days I had nothing to show for myself. He was not waiting for me to prove anything first. He was already there, the whole time, before I even noticed.

Maybe that is what grace has been teaching me. I do not have to earn belonging. I already have it. I just get to choose what I do with it.

Here is where I am today.

I have nothing to prove.

I still have a lot to improve.

Those two things are not fighting each other. They never were, not for me. They are just how I choose to grow, on my own terms, in my own time, with nothing to perform and no one to convince.

I am not done growing. I do not think I am supposed to be.

But I already know who I am while I get there.
